A bucket elevator is a conveying machine that continuously transports bulk materials upward—vertically or near-vertically—using a series of buckets evenly attached to an endless traction element. Simply put, it scoops material from the bottom using the buckets, lifts it to the top for discharge, and repeats this cycle to achieve vertical material transport.
Bucket elevators are suitable for conveying powdery, granular, and small-lump materials, such as coal, cement, ore, grain, and chemical fertilizers.
The operation of a bucket elevator consists of four continuous stages: loading, lifting, discharging, and the return of empty buckets.
Loading stage: Material enters the casing through the bottom inlet, and the buckets are filled at the base via scooping or gravity feeding. Loading methods vary based on material characteristics: gravity feeding is suitable for free-flowing materials, while the scooping method is used for materials that tend to pile up.
Lifting stage: The loaded buckets travel vertically upward along the inside of the casing, driven by the traction element (belt or chain).
Discharging stage: After passing over the head pulley at the top, the buckets discharge the material into the receiving chute using centrifugal force, gravity, or a combination of both. Bucket elevators are classified into three types based on the discharge method: centrifugal discharge, gravity discharge, and mixed discharge.
Return of empty buckets: After discharging their contents, the empty buckets travel downward along the opposite side to the bottom to be reloaded, repeating the cycle.
The entire process takes place within an enclosed casing, effectively preventing dust leakage and meeting environmental protection standards.
Bucket elevators have established a firm foothold across numerous industries thanks to several key strengths:
High space efficiency—They enable vertical conveying with a small footprint, offering a distinct advantage where factory space is limited. In the grain storage sector, they are virtually the only equipment capable of lifting grain vertically from ground level to the top of the silo.
High conveying capacity—Standard models handle throughputs ranging from a few tons to hundreds of tons per hour, allowing for configurations tailored to specific needs.
Excellent sealing—The fully enclosed casing design maintains a slight negative pressure within the housing, effectively preventing dust leakage—a feature of increasing importance given today's stringent environmental regulations.
High lifting height—Standard models cover a range of 5 to 50 meters, while specialized designs can reach 80 meters or more.
Reliable operation—Advanced design and manufacturing processes ensure overall system reliability, with a trouble-free operating life exceeding 20,000 hours.
With years of expertise in complete processing equipment for organic and compound fertilizers, Huaqiang Heavy Industry offers models customized to the specific properties of the client's raw materials. We support a wide range of custom configurations, including anti-sticking hoppers for moist fermented chicken manure, high-temperature resistant plate-chain elevators for dried fertilizer, dust-proof and explosion-proof enclosed casings, and extended maintenance access ports.
Our comprehensive fertilizer production line equipment covers the entire proces—from crushing, mixing, and granulation to conveying, drying, and cooling. All units undergo no-load testing before leaving the factory and come with detailed installation drawings and maintenance manuals; we also provide on-site commissioning and after-sales service nationwide.
